New Mexicans’ increasing adoption of solar energy for homes, businesses and schools has created a welcome ripple effect in the state: job creation. Positive Energy Solar, New Mexico’s largest Certified Benefits Corporations (B Corp) and one of the state’s largest solar companies with more than 1,000 solar installations, has added 25 jobs already this year.
The employee-owned solar energy company has 65 employees in Albuquerque, Las Cruces, and Santa Fe. This year, new people were hired into the Sales, Marketing, Design, Installation, Project Management and Administration Departments. Every person hired is either from New Mexico or has lived here for at least one year. All regular full-time Positive Energy Solar employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, paid time off and profit sharing. Since it is an employee-owned company, new team members are given an opportunity to purchase stock in the company after one year of employment. “Our business model engages and inspires intelligent and committed people to join our team and as a result we can deliver the best services in the business to our customers.” said CEO Regina Wheeler.
Positive Energy Solar joins a growing number of New Mexican businesses that are hiring. After eight straight months of job losses, New Mexico saw employment gains in June, July, and August as compared to a year ago. Some 4,600 jobs have been added over the last 12 months – mainly in mining, transportation, warehousing, information technology, and hospitality.
